Solo Dating Ideas That You Can Do at Home!

Updated: Jul 5

Hey everyone! Let’s dive into something fun and crucial for your personal growth—solo dating, right from the comfort of your own home. Yes, you heard me! It’s about giving yourself the love and attention you freely give to others, but this time, it’s all about you. You don’t even need to step out of your door to make it happen.

Why Solo Dating at Home Rocks

Solo dating at home is a great way to dip your toes into the practice of solo dating. It’s convenient, comfortable, and way less stressful than planning an outing. Plus, you can totally customize the experience to fit your mood or interests at the moment. Whether it's cooking or turning your living room into a yoga retreat, the possibilities are endless.

As someone who has navigated the highs and lows of both personal and professional life, setting aside time to date myself has been a game-changer. It’s those moments when you’re chilling at home, doing what you love, that you truly get to meet yourself deeply. On nights when Sophie is out networking or having a girlie night, I take the opportunity to solo date, and I’m going to share with you some things I have tried.

Creative Solo Date Ideas at Home

Culinary Adventures

Why not spice things up in the kitchen? My Instagram and TikTok accounts are filled with bookmarks of recipes ranging from easy and comforting to more challenging ones. For me, my solo date culinary adventures are a great opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and try out a recipe that I wouldn’t normally attempt. On one such solo date adventure, I tried to make spicy potato noodles based on a video by FoodieChina888. After 3 hours, it was a disaster, and I had to go out to grab some fried chicken for dinner instead. But this culinary solo date journey gave me a much needed moment of mindfulness, as I was able to appreciate my hands as I mashed the potatoes and my nose as I fried up the chili and garlic.

DIY Art Projects

If you plan in advance, you can treat yourself to some canvases, paint, or whatever crafting supplies you’ve been curious to try. If you’re on a budget or pressed for time, you can just grab some printer paper, markers, and whatever else you might have on hand and let your creativity flow. I remember trying out the style of Mr. Doodle one night and though it started as just fun, it turned out to be one of the most liberating experiences of just letting loose. It's nothing I’m ever going to show anyone, but that’s the point—solo dating is about you and you only.

Home Music Night

You all listen to music while you’re out at restaurants and bars. You probably listen to music while you’re working. But when’s the last time you really LISTENED to music? Another solo date idea is to explore new music or listen to your favorites, but really listen to it. Sit away from your computer and out of reach of your phone. Shut your eyes. And just listen. Take in each note, each word, and savor. Music has a way of reaching deep into our souls, and really taking it in can be a truly therapeutic experience.

Self-Care Indulgence

Spa Night at Home

This one is am easy solo date idea if you have a bathtub, and you can combine it with the home music night. Light some candles, throw in a bath bomb, play some soothing tunes, and there you have it—a spa night. Grab a glass of wine and perhaps read a book as you soak. It’s relaxation heaven.

Meditation Retreat

Set aside an evening for some serious mindfulness. Try different meditation apps such as Calm or YouTube guided sessions. As an entrepreneur, I’m pretty much a ball of stress most of the time. I started incorporating meditation into my solo dates, and it has massively improved my focus and lowered my stress levels.

Intellectual Stimulation

Reading Marathon

Pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read or dive into a series of articles on a topic you’re curious about. I’ve been a bit too reliant on Shortform App for getting me the information I need for business purposes, but there’s nothing like reading something in the way the author intended. And solo date ideas don’t need to (and in fact, shouldn’t) be about productivity either, go ahead and read some good fiction or even some bad fiction. Remember, a solo date should be a treat to yourself.

Educational Workshops

There are so many things I’m interested in that I don’t have the time to learn because they aren’t conducive to business, and I’m sure you also have things you want to learn or are interested in that you don’t feel you should be spending time on. But as a solo date is a treat, these are good opportunities to explore those things. There are tons of online courses and workshops available. Whether it's learning graphic design or understanding the basics of psychology, expanding your knowledge is always a good idea, so if you feel guilty about being entirely unproductive, this is a happy middle ground.

Physical Wellness

Home Fitness Challenge

Create a personal fitness challenge. It could be a yoga flow, a bodyweight workout, or even dancing. I tried a 30-day stretch challenge, and it was not only invigorating but also helped me feel more grounded. And the beauty of this is that this can be a daily solo date.

Yoga and Pilates Session

Find some online classes that suit your level and turn your living room into a studio. Yoga or Pilates can be incredibly rewarding and a great way to enhance your flexibility and peace of mind. And this could easily segue into a solo date out of the house at a yoga studio.

Making the Most of Your Solo Home Dates

To really benefit from solo dating at home, it’s crucial to set the right atmosphere. Make it special, just as you would for someone else. Unplug from your devices, unless, of course, they’re part of the date (like streaming a concert or taking an online class). And remember, intention is key. Why are you doing this? What do you hope to gain or feel?

From personal experience, setting intentions like “to feel relaxed” or “to learn something new” not only gives your solo dates purpose but also makes them far more fulfilling.

Solo dating at home isn’t just about passing the time. It’s about making the time to meet, understand, and love yourself deeply. To give yourself a moment of mindfulness. It’s about growth, fun, and discovery—all from the comfort of your own space. So, why not give it a shot? Plan that first date with yourself. Here’s to loving and dating yourself. You deserve it.
